So your rotating it to break it from the blade when it spot welds? Why not use a material that does not stick to stainless steel and doesn't have any points to melt like they do with tap burners for example where they use copper hollow tubing as an electrode?

Me: Yes, breaking spot welds is the main reason. This is an educational series on EDM. I know that steel usually isn't machined with a steel electrode. However, I will explain in future chapters what else the rotating tool is good for. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to learning more about plasma :)

Me: Many thanks for your donation!
With the donation you asked for a video explaining why only one electrode erodes in my plasma experiment with the thin wires. I will of course give a brief answer in a coming video. Since this requires to do a lot of coding for animated sequences, it might take a while.
The short answer:
Electrons fly from the cathode (ground) to the anode (positive voltage). On their way through air, they generate positively charged ions, that travel from the anode to the cathode. With that, lightweight electrons hit the anode, heavy ions the cathode. The heavy ions have a larger impact on the wire and cause it to melt while the energy of the lightweight electrons is spread over a larger volume of the anode and so don't heat it up that much. The ground wire melts, the positive wire doesn't.

lg sub

Hi Norbert,  I am working on a personal project where I need to be able to detect if a valve has closed. I have a motor attached to a screw, as the motor turns the screw it pushed a gate down until the gate has closed. I need to be able to detect that the gate has closed to prevent damaging the motor. Is there a way to detect that the gate has closed by measuring a spike in amps drawn or increase in resistance or something? I cant put a mechanical switch on the gate. Thanks.

Me: Yes, if a motor gets stalled, the amps go up. With a current sensor you can detect that. But what about a switch on the lead screw or somewhere else but on the gate directly?
Hard to give a better advice without having seen a photo of your setup.
Thanks for your donation!

I collect all the part nedded i wanna to cut foam with it

I have 2 motor from old printer "i know you say its has to have at least 60nm but i will use belt instead of scews and for cutting foam i think no much torque will needing "

Can i use one motor for x axis
And i dont wanna the z axis
Any changes in the code if its work without z and the second x?

Me: The only person that can figure out, if your motors can drive your mechanics is: You! Put your machine together and see if the motors have enough torque to drive your setup.
Also: If you try something new, you must live with failures and work around them. That's real tinkering.
You can either modify my Arduino code to totally ignore the second X motor or sinply connect the sensors of X motor 1 to the gpio sensor inputs of motor 2 on the Arduino as well.
With not sending any commands for the Z axis, only X and Y will move. That should work.

Hallo Norbert,
