I build this circuit and made a disk with 36 teeth and 36 spaces. All teeth and spaces are 4mm. Disk is about 90mm in diameter. I assembled all on wood board with the LCD, Push button the Arduino Uno. All worked perfect as you said. Now I am thinking of using this system to open a canopy. The accuracy is more than enough. How can I make the motor stop after example 300 counts. I thank you again for your kind assistance.

Me: All you must do is connect a motor through an H-bridge to your microcontroller and power one of the two input pins until the desired number of pulses is reached. Should not be too hard.

Hello. Can we use this ruler for three-axis lathe? What is the source code for three-axis?

Me: You must write the sorce code for a three axis machine, because I haven't.

Do you accept bitcoin donations?

Me: Sorry, I don't have any sort of crypro currency on my discs. I prefer hardware coins since they have a certain value caused by the metals used ;-)

Dear Sir,

This project is very usefull to my project.

just i want one modification I want preset length and ruler reach preset leaghth one output goes high

and it will reset by another input.

thanks

Me: Well, if you'd like to make changes on the software, you are allowed to do so. The source code is available as Download and the license is free.
I will implement that type of functionality some day, but for sure not quickly, because I have too many projects running...

Excellent useful makeshift project., both educational and very functional. You have the equivalent of a standing ovation from me on the level of detail, innovation, creativeness, and theoretical explanation to setup this project. Well Done!

Me: Thanks!

Hello Norbert.
Great example of Arduino and optical encoder, a little bit crude  - I wish it will be more accurate.  Can I suggest you way to improve this  - attach linear optical encoder  to you workpiece, say with magnets. Or make a movable caret that will measure linear movement and will also carrying workpiece.

Thanks
Gene.

Me: More accurate than half a millimeter for parts cut by hand? First of all you'll need a very good mechanics to get better results.
