Hi.Hello, can I control this CNC with Linux CNC software?
Me: How on earth should I know what you can do and what you can't?
I guess you want to know if this machine is capable of being run with Linux CNC as it is. I haven't tried, but since the DC motors can't be controlled with Step/Dir commands (at least not with the electronics I have described in this chapter), I guess it won't work without modifications on the electronics. The most easy way should be to use normal, bipolar stepper motors and grbl on the Arduino Uno.

Dear Norbert
I have gathered all the p
Square tubes and I am ready to drill. In order to be precise I need to print out on plotter paper 1:1 scale the sides of the square tubes with the holes and then I will cut them carefully stick them precisely and mark them with the pen-like point metal marker so to drill the holes as precise as possible.
Please can you help me or guide me with that print out from the 3D Openscad file?
I would be very grateful
Thank you
Jonida
Me: OpenSCAD is a 3D design software and as far as I know there is no option to print layers or so. You could probably switch to orthogonal view and export the screenshots, but I am not sure if that results in precise plots.
I have used a ruler to find the drill positions and you should not worry if they are not "spot on". The base idea is to have a template for a CNC machine that can be built by hand work, a drill and a hacksaw. No need for a plotter.

Would you please give more details about them ..Thank you in Advance .
Best Regards
Me: I won't continue working on this version of my CNC software. Instead I am writing a new one processing Gcode. The meaning of the keys send to the Arduino is written in the source code of the Arduino.ino:
'a' is advance rate and should better be named feedrate. It's the pause between steps (=machine speed) while carving material.
's' reduces pause between motor steps, 'S' increases pause between motor steps
'x' and 'X' are returned if the homing switch of the x axis is open or not.
'g' and 'h' are experimental just to make the X axis spin with full speed.

Why can't we use high speed motors like 2000rpm or 1000rpm
Me: You can, however they must have enough torque to turn the treaded rods and so move the axes. Low cost and so low power but high speed motors usually haven't enough torque to use them as direct drive, thus you must use a transmission same as I did.

Seriously interested in making one of these!
Just a thought...
Would the problem of the metal chips not being washed away be solvable by reducing the diameter of the coolant tube, thus creating more pressure?
Directing the nozzle more closely to the tool head might wash more of them away?
Cheers!
Me: Yes, with a modified coolant flow, the chips are better washed away. Meanwhile I have done some experiments and it works good enough.
I am also still doing experiments with a variety of motors.
...and finally I must continue working on implementing G-code in the software.

Nice machine, but is the mechanical design strong enough to process metal like aluminium.
I mean really milling not engraving.
When i want to build this, i prefer to weld it with MIG, its more stable and easier to build it.
Me: Whether a CNC can process aluminum or not depends on the quality of your build as well as the router motor and your milling tool. I did some experiments milling aluminum in the video about the coolant install. A high resolution foto showing aluminum is figure 7 on this page. I tried iron as well, but wouldn't call this success (yet).
Would be interested to see you welded frame. Welding might be easier if you are a skilled welder or else you will ruin your frame ;-)
